CPS views art from an intuitive and therapeutic vantage point. Classes include: Art Therapy, Contour Drawing, Intuitive Painting, Mixed Media Encounter and Open Art Studio. Students are encouraged to connect with their hearts and let go of perfection, which enables the hidden artist on the inside to emerge through various mediums, such as acrylic paint, air dry clay, collage, elements of nature, fibers, found object sculpture, journal-making, mask-making, oil and soft pastels, and watercolors.
Community Project Learning
Community Project Learning is a way for our students to learn through actively participating in the community. Students earn academic credits by working with several local nonprofit groups: Concrete Couch, Colorado Springs Food Rescue, and Kids on Bikes. The outcome of our community project learning is that our community members develop a meaningfully involvement with our students and see first hand the approaches used to educating our students and our students develop healthy relationships within the community while acquiring new skills.
CPS students are involved in preparing lunch every day. They have the opportunity to become “Servsafe Certified” in order open up future career opportunities.
DJ workshop is designed for a student to learn the basics of mixing music live for parties and special events.
Community Prep School has several outdoor adventures throughout the year to help students become immersed in the outside world. Not only can the students earn credit through these adventures, but they also have the opportunity to learn and grow in unfamiliar environments. We do a variety of trips, anywhere from a local one-day activity to week-long camping excursions in National Parks throughout Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.
