I am a Colorado Springs native, graduating from Coronado High School in 1972. I attended CU Boulder, acquiring a Bachelor’s degree. After a brief tenure in the Public Health field, I returned to CU for my teaching license then on to UCCS, earning a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.
I have been involved in public education for over 25 years having begun my career as a teacher in District 11’s EOP-VISIONS program, housed at the current Community Prep building. I then helped establish District 20’s Aspen Valley High School before returning to District 11 where I founded The Bijou School, serving as its Principal until my retirement in 2010. Shortly after retirement, I joined the Governing Board of the Community Prep School, in order to continue working with the unique population of students it serves. I am also on the Board of Directors for the Foundation for School District 11.
I am passionate about public education and committed to providing options for each student to be able to learn in his or her own way. I am extremely proud of my involvement with Community Prep and believe that its mission and current practice of engaging the business and post-secondary organizations as partners is cutting edge in public education and will help to assure its students’ success in our ever changing society.
