Every new student who walks through the doors of CPS participates in our Introductory Discovery Class. The class is a life skills classroom course that teaches students:
- How to resolve conflict
- How to problem-solve
- How to repress or redirect anger
- How to effectively communicate with others
- How to achieve workforce-readiness skills
Because of our Open-Entry/Open-Exit policy, the Discovery course is held 4-6 times a year.
In 2012, CPS added an off-site learning component to the Discovery curriculum. Today, students can participate in one of several outdoor learning adventures, led by CPS staffers seasoned in outdoor recreation. This expeditionary program buoys students’ self-confidence and currently ranks as one of the school’s most popular learning programs.
